BEREA, Ky. – It was a solid start to the 2014 seasons as both the University of Pikeville men's and women's soccer teams picked up wins on the road at Berea on Saturday. The UPIKE men beat the NCAA Div. III Mountaineers 1-0, while the women also earned a shutout of 3-0.

Exon Menjivar tallied the lone goal in the men's game, matching his total goals from last season in just one game. For the women, it was newcomer Abbie Helwig scoring two goals and Olivia Gipson chipping in with one.

The UPIKE women will be back in action on Sept. 2 at Union (Ky.), while the men travel to Henderson, Tenn., on Aug. 29 for the Freed-Hardeman Lions' Cup where they will face the hosts at 8 p.m. ET.
