Women’s Bowling Wraps Up Green River Classic Title on Sunday

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- By a margin of over 650 pins, the University of Pikeville women's bowling team captured first place at the Green River Classic at Phillips Lanes on Sunday.

UPIKE finished with a score of 7,116, topping Campbellsville in second place with 6,456 and Cumberlands rounding out the top three with 6,106. The Bears built the majority of their lead after Saturday's five team games when Kaylee Magazine paced them as the individual champion with 986 total pins.

In Sunday's 12 Baker games alone, UPIKE was still the leader, scoring 2,304 points to edge Campbellsville with 2,213. The Bears posted their best score in the 11th game with a 220, giving them five out of 12 games with over 200 pins.

UPIKE also won the junior-varsity championship and finished as the runner-up as its two teams competing at the lower level tallied 6,592 and 6,095 pins, respectively. Had they been part of the varsity standings they would have finished second and fourth overall.

Other individuals on the leaderboard behind Magazine for the Bears were Trista Flowers in 26th with a score of 746, Emily Porter in 29th with a 718, Morgan Lantvit placing 30th with a 697, Karlee Evans placing 43rd with a 590 and KT Simpson finishing 45th with a score of 585.

UPIKE is back on the lanes on Oct. 4-5 at the Southern Kentucky Classic in Bowling Green, Ky.
