CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- For the second time this season, the University of Pikeville men's soccer team lost to Ohio Christian, this time falling 8-0 on the road on Saturday.
The Bears previously lost 4-1 in the season opener at home, but this time around the Trailblazers took a 2-0 halftime lead and added six second-half scores to claim the shutout.
Roberto Varela collected three saves for Ohio Christian as his team outshot UPIKE 23-11, including a 16-6 edge in shots on goal. Tait Torstensen finished with eight saves for UPIKE, he played all 90 minutes.
Although nothing was getting past the keeper, Daniel Olaniran led the Bears in shots with three, followed by Hayden McCloud and Garrett Kee with two each. Alex Marstiller was the only OCU player with multiple goals, scoring two in the sixth and 66th minutes.
OCU's first-half scores came in the sixth and 16th minutes before both teams went scoreless for over 30 minutes. But the goals came swiftly for the Trailblazers in the second half, at one point scoring three goals in a four-minute span.
UPIKE drops to 2-7 with the loss, while Ohio Christian improves to 6-5 with its second straight win.
