Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Edged by Cumberlands 2-0

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- There weren't many offensive chances for either side, but Cumberlands made its count when it needed to on its way to a 2-0 win over the University of Pikeville women's soccer team on senior night at the Bob Amos Complex.

The Patriots (6-3-3, 1-2-1 MSC) only outshot the Bears 9-5 overall, but did manage a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal. Keeper Courtney McCane made the save on the only good look from UPIKE. Megan Stickler had a close-range chance, but McCane was in the right place at the right time to make the stop.

Macarena Acuna paced UPIKE (2-13, 0-6 MSC) with two shots, although Kaitlyn Abdon had the best chance to score on a bang-bang play from Jasmine Davis in the final 10 minutes. Abdon bent the shot over the keeper, but it was ultimately too high.

What would eventually be the game winner came from Jody LeMaster in the 28th minute. LeMaster received a cross from Amerah Dixon in the middle of the box, allowing her winning kick to come from the goal-box line.

It was the only score of the first half, while Dixon got into the scoring act in the 83rd minute by dribbling past a pair of defenders just inside the box for a clear look at the goal.

Bryanna Schroers played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bears, finishing with three saves and the two goals allowed.

Cumberlands was clearly more physical, racking up a 16-5 foul advantage and a 2-1 lead in corner-kick attempts.
