Volleyball Comes Up Short against Campbellsville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville volleyball team hung around with Campbellsville most of the night, but ultimately lost 3-0 on Thursday night in Mid-South Conference play at UPIKE Gym

After falling behind 6-1 in the opening set, the Bears rallied back to take a 15-14 lead on an ace from Rachel Murphy. An ace from Kaitlyn Welsh extended it to 17-15, then Connor Cook smacked a kill to put the Bears in business at 21-18.

But the tone for the rest of the match was decided over the next few points as Campbellsville (13-11, 5-6 MSC) used a 6-0 run to take a 24-21 lead before winning it on a kill by Annija Abolina. The Tigers cruised to a 25-16 win in the second set, then turned a 17-16 deficit in the final frame to a 25-19 decision after a late 7-0 run.

Sydney Hall led UPIKE (11-18, 0-13 MSC) with 10 kills, Savanna Zakman dished out 23 assists and Murphy picked up six digs. Cassidy Tackett was valuable up front, sending back three blocks to go along with five kills on 10 swings. The Bears hit .194 as a team, while Campbellsville tallied a .342 mark.
