PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville football team has never beaten Georgetown, but there would be no better time than the present as a share of the Mid-South Conference East Division Championship is on the line at 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at the Hambley Athletic Complex.
Coming into the weekend, Georgetown is the only team in the division with a perfect 4-0 mark. Cumberlands is 4-1 and has a bye week and UPIKE is 3-1. With a win for the Bears on Saturday, all three teams would finish the regular season at 4-1 and tri champions would be named.
UPIKE has never won a conference title, and even though it would be shared three ways, a win on Saturday would be a big step for the program under second-year head coach Allan Holland Jr.
Then again, Georgetown will have other plans, as a win would give it the outright MSC East Championship and the division's automatic bid to the NAIA National Playoffs.
In the event of a three-way tie, the nationals bid will go to the highest ranked team among the three in the final NAIA Top-25 Poll, scheduled to be released on Sunday. Cumberlands and Georgetown are currently receiving votes.
Campbellsville has already secured the West's automatic bid with a perfect 5-0 mark in league play.
