PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- It's tough to win without the ball and West Virginia Tech struggled to hang on to it all night, giving up 23 turnovers as the 22nd-ranked University of Pikeville women's basketball team took advantage for a 107-54 win on Saturday night at the East Ky. Expo Center.

What was expected to be a competitive game quickly turned into a rout as UPIKE (4-0) built a 20-9 lead just seven minutes in on an Emily Baker layup.

It got worse in the second quarter as the Bears outscored Tech 28-4.

Julie Conway scored the first bucket of the period and the only other points came from Alexandra Combs hitting a pair of free throws. UPIKE took a 44-point lead into halftime as a three from Rachel Lee made it 60-16.

After falling behind by as many as 63 points in the third quarter, Tech got a reprieve in the final 10 minutes when it outscored the Bears 21-11.

Still, the Golden Bears couldn't have expected to shoot just 31 percent from the field and only hit 3 of their 14 3-point attempts. While struggling to score, they had to watch UPIKE flourish at 55.6 percent from the field and 40 percent 8-20) from behind the arc.

UPIKE controlled the glass at 54-23 and dished out 26 assists, compared to just eight for West Virginia Tech.

Six Bears scored in double figures, led by Sandra Davis with 15 points off the bench and Kandice Porter, Kelah Eldridge and Dinyell Calvert adding 12 points each.

The Golden Bears' Savannah Shamblin led all scorers with 20 points, hitting a team-best two 3-pointers.
