BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Top-seeded Campbellsville jumped ahead with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes and never looked back in a 10-0 win over No. 8 seed UPIKE in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Championship on Thursday afternoon at the Lovers Lane Soccer Complex.
The loss brings the Bears' season to an end with a 2-11 record, while the Tigers (16-2) advance to Friday's semifinals, continuing their campaign that already includes the program's first MSC Regular-Season Championship.
The first goal came from Ross Lindsay in the fifth minute, which ended up being enough by itself for the win, as Campbellsville keeper Gonzalo Sapena grabbed the win by completing a clean sheet in over 50 minutes on the pitch.
While Sapena didn't have to make a save, backup Josh Hollis scooped up UPIKE's only attempt of the game in the second half. Campbellsville ended up outshooting the Bears 39-1, including a 24-1 advantage in shots on goal. Dobbie Weverink fired UPIKE's lone shot, while Marco Galeano paced Campbellsville with 12 shots, placing nine on target.
The Tigers took a 4-0 lead into halftime with single goals from Lindsay, Foster (9th minute), Guilherme Fanck (30th) and Galeano (37th). They added six more scores in the final 45 minutes, led by Galeano adding four more scores for five goals on the day. Guilherme Cheng led the Tigers with two assists.
Tait Torstensen finished with 12 saves for UPIKE in a complete 90 minutes in goal. Corner kicks went in Campbellsville's favor 7-0, while UPIKE picked up more foul calls a 7-4.
