Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville volleyball team closed out its regular season with a 3-1 win at Midway on Thursday night. The Bears tallied set scores of 20-25, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-22 to give them three wins in their last five contests.
UPIKE (15-21), which had also beaten Midway on Oct. 24 at home 3-0, was led by Connor Cook with eight kills and Savanna Zakman and Kaitlyn Welsh chipping in with seven each.
Zakman also gave UPIKE a big boost with five aces, a statistic that she ranks ninth nationally in with 63 total aces.
Midway drops to 6-29 overall with the loss as it prepares for the postseason with the KIAC Tournament coming up on Nov. 13.
Next up for the Bears is the Mid-South Conference Championship, starting on Nov. 12 at South Warren High School in Bowling Green, Ky. UPIKE will be the No. 9 seed and play in the first match of the day at 1 p.m. ET for the right to play again at 9 p.m. that night.
