Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Quigley Helps Women’s Basketball Upset No. 3 Campbellsville 74-71

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- For 18 straight games third-ranked Campbellsville had beaten the University of Pikeville women's basketball team, but on Thursday night Khalilah Quigley and Kandice Porter decided it was time for that to change.

After falling behind by as many as 12 points in the second half, UPIKE had climbed within one at 71-70 with 37 seconds to play. Campbellsville's Chelsea Craig missed the front end of a bonus free throw, allowing Quigley to find Porter underneath out of a timeout for the go-ahead basket.

Craig's jumper on the other end fell short and Quigley was sent to the stripe with two seconds remaining. The senior hit both freebies and LeeAnn Grider's heave just past half court missed its mark.

At No. 3 in the NAIA Top-25 Poll, Campbellsville (23-2, 8-2 MSC) is the highest ranked team UPIKE has beaten in program history.

The Bears' 18-game losing streak against the Tigers dated back to Feb. 23, 2006. Campbellsville's 13-game winning streak this season also came to a close as it hadn't lost a game since Dec. 4.

Quigley was dominant, finishing with a career-high 29 points and 11 rebounds, while Kandice Porter added 16 points and nine boards. Kelah Eldridge, who hit three 3-pointers, joined them in double figures with 12 points.

Emily Fox led Campbellsville in the loss with 17 points off the bench, including a 5-of-11 showing from behind the arc.

UPIKE (21-6, 6-5 MSC) and Campbellsville both shot out to seven-point leads in the first half. The Bears' came at 11-4 when Porter went back up with an offensive rebound, while the Tigers found themselves up 23-16 eight minutes later after outscoring UPIKE 19-5.

Campbellsville ended up with a seven-point lead at halftime when Lindey Young came up with a second-chance basket to make it 35-28.

The Tigers pushed their lead out to 12 points six minutes into the second half and were up 10 at 57-47 when the Bears started their game-changing run.

UPIKE ended up scoring the next 11 points before taking their first lead since the 11:10 mark of the first half on a put back by Porter. During the run, Quigley hit a pair of free throws and back-to-back threes to give the Bears momentum.

When Quigley hit her third three of the half a little more than three minutes later the Bears were enjoying a four-point lead at 63-59. Fox and Caroline Owen made things interesting with a quick 6-0 run put together with a pair of threes to put the Tigers back up by two.

With just under two minutes left, Lindsey Burd hit two free throws to give Campbellsville a 69-68 lead. After a charge call on Quigley, Craig added a jumper to extend the lead to three. This time it was Craig picking up an offensive foul, allowing Porter to cut the deficit to one with a basket on the other end.

Craig had a chance to add to the Tigers' lead at the free throw line with 37 seconds on the clock, but her free throw rimmed out and Porter and Quigley put the win away for the Bears.

UPIKE shot 43.3 percent from the field and 42.9 percent (9 of 21) from three as Campbellsville hit at just 37.3 percent from the field. While rebounds went in favor of the Tigers 47-40, UPIKE hit seven more free throws to help prove the difference.

The Bears play their home finale at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday against St. Catharine in the East Ky. Expo Center.
