PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- With its bench outscoring Kentucky Christian 57-27, the University of Pikeville women's basketball team rolled past the Knights 89-56 on Tuesday in the East Ky. Expo Center.
It was the final non-conference opponent of the regular season as the Bears (19-6) now look ahead to a 2:06 p.m. ET trip to Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky., on Saturday. The game is being televised by WYMT on ThisTV.
While only playing 10 minutes, Khalilah Quigley was still good enough to lead all scorers with 15 points. And while Kandice Porter added 14 points in 15 minutes, the UPIKE reserves did the bulk of the damage against the Knights.
Aundrea Matchen led that group with 11 points, including three 3-pointers, Devin Conley added nine points and four assists and Jennifer Keene tallied a season high eight points to go with her six boards.
Kentucky Christian (8-16) got 12 points from Jana Glick as she was the only Knight to reach double figures scoring. KCU was outshot from the field 47.8 to 36.7 percent and outrebounded 49-36. The Bears connected on three more 3-pointers (8-5) and held a 15-7 advantage in made free throws.
The first 13 minutes of the game told a different story as Kentucky Christian led 25-23 after two Katie Redding free throws with 6:51 on the clock. UPIKE finally got things going late in the half, outscoring the Knights 14-2 to build a 10-point lead with just over four minutes left until halftime.
Leading 37-30, the Bears went on a 14-0 run to close the half and take a 21-point advantage into the break.
Kentucky Christian never threatened in the second half as the closest it would come was the same 21-point margin it ended the first half with.
UPIKE went up by as many as 34 points as Dee Foster made a layup off a Rachel Lee pass to go up 80-46 with 3:36 to play.
