PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- There wasn't much offense, but both teams ended Saturday's doubleheader with a similar win as UPIKE topped St. Catharine 2-1 in game one and the Patriots returned the favor with a 2-1 win in 10 innings in the nightcap at Paul Butcher Field.
The teams will play another doubleheader to end the weekend series starting at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
UPIKE got a big performance from Sydney Morris in game one, allowing one run on six hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks to improve to an even 6-6 on the season.
Lauren Barnes (4-4) allowed just three hits in eight innings in game two with 12 strikeouts and Hawley Ill hit a home run, but it wasn't enough to overcome a pair of errors as the Patriots won in extra innings.

UPIKE 2, St. Catharine 1
After two scoreless innings to start the game, St. Catharine got on the board first with a single run in the third. Third baseman Brittany McKee singled to lead off the inning, moved to second on a bunt, took third on a wild throw from first base and eventually scored on a dropped fly ball at second base.
The 1-0 lead lasted until the bottom of the sixth inning when Ill singled, stole third base and tied things up on a wild throw by the catcher trying to pick her off.
It was the same error that ultimately lost the game for the Patriots in the bottom of the seventh as centerfielder Brandi Jo Howard was walked and moved to second with a sacrifice bunt by Kayla Brown. As Howard was sliding into third to steal the base, another throw from catcher Kelsey Gravens rolled into the outfield allowing the winning run to score.
Brown, Ill, shortstop Hollie Hinkle and first baseman Brittany Adams each tallied a hit for UPIKE, while Hinkle also stole a pair of bases. Â

St. Catharine 2, UPIKE 1 (10 innings)
Game two started with a bang as both teams scored one run in the first inning.
Carly Benz was a hit by a pitch for the Patriots and later came home on a passed ball, keeping up the trend of unorthodox runs in the doubleheader. UPIKE's tying run in the bottom of the inning broke that trend though as Ill belted a two-out solo shot over the fence in left field.
After the hot start neither team could score again in regulation. The next run came in the top of the eighth when Benz doubled, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on Graven' groundout.
Brown gave the Bears a chance to come back after singling and making it all the way to third on sloppy defense from St. Catharine, but Ill just missed in her at-bat with a shallow pop up to second.
Tiffany Wickline (4-10) grabbed the win in the circle, scattering five hits for one run with four strikeouts. Brown led UPIKE with two hits.Â
