Volleyball Falls to Milligan and Freed-Hardeman at Mountain Madness

MILLIGAN, Tenn. -- The University of Pikeville volleyball team wrapped up play in the Milligan Mountain Madness with a 3-1 loss to host Milligan and 3-1 loss to Freed-Hardeman on Saturday.

In the opener against the Buffaloes, the Bears lost by set scores of 25-20, 25-21, 27-25, 25-16, while the Lions won in straight sets 25-22, 26-24, 25-16.

Sydney Hall was dominant for UPIKE in the opener, tallying a career-high 17 kills at a .500 hitting percentage. However, she was nearly the only attacker with a positive hitting mark as the Bears finished at .064 as a team for the match. Savanna Zakman equaled the match high with 35 assists and led all players with six aces.

Against Freed-Hardeman, it was Rachel Murphy that led the Bears in kills with eight as Hall was limited to just seven. Zakman was strong again with four aces and 21 assists, but once again the offense struggled to a .057 clip. Making things even harder was the Lions leading the match in blocks 10-2.

Freed-Hardeman's Allie Moss was hard to deal with as well, tallying 12 kills at a .385 clip with four digs and two aces.

Bear Standout: Sydney Hall (24 kills, 4 digs, 4 blocks in two matches combined)

Visitor Standout: Allie Moss (Freed-Hardeman) (12 kills, 2 assists, 1 ace, 4 digs)
