PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville outgained Point 488-262 in total offense, but came up on the wrong side of the scoreboard in a 36-33 loss on Saturday afternoon at the Hambley Athletic Complex.

UPIKE (1-2) led 20-7 early in the second quarter, but the Skyhawks gained momentum with a 76-yard screen pass from Charles Fortis to Brandon Robertson to get within seven at 20-14.

After trading touchdowns, Point's Devonte Ellington grabbed a game-changing interception off Sani Warren with 1:27 left until halftime. Ellington returned the pick to the one-yard line, allowing Ladarrius Mathis to use one carry to put the Skyhawks up for the first time at 28-26.

Early in the third quarter, Point (2-1) punter David Strickland pinned the Bears near their goal line, leading to a safety, making it a four-point lead. UPIKE bounced back with a 13-play, 98-yard scoring drive lasting nearly six minutes to put itself back in front 33-30 with 5:26 left in the third.

Both offenses stalled at that point, but special teams ended up proving the difference for the Skyhawks.

Stopped at their own seven-yard line, the Bears punted to open the fourth quarter and Robertson took it back 46-yards for what would end up being the game-winning touchdown.

The extra-point attempt was off the mark, but ultimately didn't matter as UPIKE failed to score or get into field-goal range the rest of the way.

After the punt return for six, the Bears ended up punting on their next drive, then losing the ball with a fumble.

A final chance to pull off the comeback came with three minutes to play as R.J. Rosemond Jr., took over at quarterback for Warren.

Starting from his 20, Rosemond got the Bears to the Point 36-yard line, but couldn't complete a fourth-and-eight pass to Anfernee Brown to keep the drive alive with 27 seconds left. Point was able to kneel three times and run out the rest of the clock.

The offensive numbers were good for UPIKE as Warren finished 19 of 26 for 238 yards and a touchdown, while Quan Weaver rushed for 142 yards on 28 carries for a pair of scores. Weaver also caught the lone receiving touchdown, taking a short pass 63 yards to the house to make it 13-7 UPIKE in the first quarter.

Fortis finished 16-of-29 passing for Point, totaling 196 yards and three touchdowns. The best Skyhawk rusher was Christian Williams with 34 yards on seven carries. UPIKE outgained Point on the groud 225-66.

Mark Hooper paced the Bears' defense with nine tackles, including one for a loss, while Arthur Williams and Camron Parsley chipped in with seven stops each.

Game Notes:

·        The Bears and Skyhawks combined for 43 first downs with UPIKE holding a 29-14 advantage.

·        Weaver finished with 230 yards of total offense and three touchdowns for the Bears.

·        There were 153 penalty yards assessed in the game, nine penalties were called on Point, six went UPIKE's way.

·        Fifty-four combined points were scored in the first half, followed by a combined 15 the rest of the game.
