WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Cumberlands netted its first goal in the 11th minute, then built a 7-0 lead by halftime on its way to a 10-0 shutout of the University of Pikeville women's soccer team in Mid-South Conference play on Wednesday.
The Patriots (8-7, 2-3 MSC) controlled the offensive chances throughout the match, posting a 29-5 advantage in shots, including a 19-3 lead in shots on goal. Jody LeMaster and Amerah Dixon led the way as both posted a hat trick with three goals each, while nine difference players dished out an assist.
Of UPIKE's (6-8, 0-4 MSC) five shots, two were taken by Macarena Acuna and Marissa Kelley, Lindsey Jones and Jackie Kidd attempted the other three. Bear keepers Moreka Buchanan and Caitlyn Hunt combined for eight saves, led by five stops from Buchanan.
Christie Funk and Samantha Moses split time in goal for Cumberlands as well, grabbing a save each to register the team shutout. LeMaster finished as the leader in shots with six.
Shelby Price opened the scoring in the first half as Dixon dribbled into the box, then made a swift cross to her for the finish. Less than a minute later, LeMaster made it 2-0 after receiving a pass from midfield into the box that she one-touched into the net.
Cumberlands ended up netting four goals in less than six minutes from the 10th to 16th minutes to put the game away early. The rest of the scores were more spread out, including late goals in the 59th, 75th and 78th minutes.
