PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville women's soccer team briefly made it a one-goal game early in the second half, but Life quickly added a goal five minutes later to go up by two on its way to a 4-1 win on Friday night at the Bob Amos Complex.
The Bears drop to 6-9 overall and 0-5 in the Mid-South Conference, while the Running Eagles move to 2-9 overall and 1-4 in league play.
Thirteen minutes into the action, Life got on the board as Josie Davis gathered herself at midfield and powered a shot through a crowd of UPIKE defenders. The ball took one bounce and rolled its way into the back of the net.
The next Running Eagle goal came in the 28th minute as Klaudia Cancino played a short cross to Alondra Hernandez cutting though the box. She put one touch on the ball to scoot it into the bottom right, just past the outstretched hands of Bear keeper Chelsie Randolph.
While the first half was empty for UPIKE, it didn't take long to get on the board in the final 45 minutes. Four minutes in to be exact is all it took for Bryanna Schroers to deliver a looping corner kick that was directly headed in by Kara Lewis to make it a one-goal game.
The momentum from the goal didn't last long though as the Running Eagles pushed it back to a two-score game in the 54th minute when Davis got loose down the left side of the field. She dribbled on her own for 20 feet, then played the ball past a charging Randolph.
Katelynn Harbeke added some insurance for Life in the 87th minute with her boot into the upper right of the goal off a pass from Davis from about 20 feet out. The 4-1 lead stuck the rest of the way as the closest UPIKE would come to scoring was a hard shot from Lyndsey Jones inside the box that was saved by Life's Desiree Kuhn.
Kuhn collected a game-high six saves and Randolph scooped up four. Life held a narrow 11-10 advantage in shots, including an 8-7 lead in shots on goal.
Jones and Tori Dillon took two shots each to lead the Bears and Davis was Life's leader with five strikes.
