Shots Scarce for Women’s Soccer in 2-0 Loss to Campbellsville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville outshot the University of Pikeville women's soccer team 17-1 on its way to a 2-0 win on Friday afternoon at the Bob Amos Complex.

The first UPIKE (6-10, 0-6 MSC) attempt came in the 54th minute when Hayden Bentley nearly hooked an attempt in from the corner before it sailed wide. Other than that, the Tigers dominated possession.

But with all the shots and control, it still took Campbellsville (9-6. 1-4 MSC) 82 minutes to score on the UPIKE defense. It eventually happened when Lakin Walls had her shot blocked, then Valeska Tovar took possession on the rebound and scored easily with a clear look at the net.

Deflated, the Bears allowed a second goal five minutes later when Anne Hare looped a long shot well outside the penalty box over the hands of goalkeeper Bryanna Schroers.

Despite the two late scores, Schroers made some memorable plays in goal, finishing with nine saves in a full 90 minutes of action. Campbellsville's Amanda Howard wasn't nearly as busy, taking the shutout win without having to make a save.

Fouls went the Tigers way as well at 14-9, as did corner kicks, 5-0.
