Women’s Soccer Strikes Quick in 3-0 Win against Ky. Christian

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- It took Sylar Chapman just under two minutes to score the game's first goal and the University of Pikeville women's soccer team never looked back, registering a 3-0 shutout win over Kentucky Christian on Tuesday at the Bob Amos Complex.

Chapman gathered a pass from Marissa Kelley about 25 yards out on the right side of the box and delivered a laser into the back of the net in the second minute. The score remained the same until the 36th minute when Dana Turner had her first attempt blocked, then took control of the rebound for a soft shot into the goal.

UPIKE (6-6) moved ahead 3-0 in the 65th minute off a looping corner kick by Tori Dillon. The ball found the feet of Chapman just five feet outside the goal for the easy score.

The Bears dominated possession, leading the game in shots 24-7 overall and 12-2 in shots on goal. There were just two offside calls in the game, both going against UPIKE and fouls went its way too, 8-3.

Chapman led all players with six shots, followed by five from Macarena Acuna. Moreka Buchanan played the first half in goal with two saves and Caitlyn Hunt wrapped up the shutout without having to make a save in the final 45 minutes. Abigail Smith took the loss in goal for the Knights (1-6), despite making nine saves.
