PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The 19th-ranked University of Pikeville men's basketball team shot 56.7 percent from the field and hit 17 threes - the most since December of 2011 - in a 105-62 rout of Point Park (Pa.) in the final game of the Walters Auto Classic on Saturday.
Trey Rakes, who received player of the game honors, hit six of the threes to finish with a game-high 18 points. Rakes also grabbed a season-high five rebounds, dished out an assist and swiped a steal in the win.
Point Park (0-3) shot 44 percent from the field and got 14 points from Jaylen Mann. Both teams shot well from the free-throw line with UPIKE (8-0) making 12-of-14 attempts and Point Park connecting on 14 of 16.
Knowing the Pioneers came to town with strong guard play, the Bears made it an emphasis to slow them down by trapping, trapping and trapping some more. The intense pressure led to 20 turnovers in which UPIKE turned into 25 points.
HOW IT WENT DOWN

A 12-2 run got the lead to 30 four minutes later and things really got broken open late in the game when Rze Culbreath hit a three and Daniel Afeaki added a layup back-to-back to push the lead to a game-high 45 points.
The Bears outscored Point Park 65-35 in the second half while shooting nearly 64 percent from the field and 64.7 percent from deep, making 11 threes in the last 20 minutes alone.
