No. 19 Men’s Basketball Routs Ohio-Lancaster 115-52

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The 19th-ranked University of Pikeville men's basketball team attacked the basket, outscoring Ohio-Lancaster 80-18 in the paint, on its way to a lopsided 115-52 win on Saturday in the final game of the Appalachian Wireless Classic. The win is the 1,000th in the 62-year history of the program.

Seven players scored in double figures, led by Marshall Bennett with 18 points off the bench and Chase Parsley and Rze Culbreath with 15 points each in a reserve role as well. The trio helped the Bears' bench outscore the Cougars' 75-11.

Hunter McCartney paced Lancaster with 19 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome being outrebounded 44-17 and shooting just 35 percent from the field as UPIKE blistered the nets at 69.6 percent. UPIKE went just 6 of 10 from deep, doing nearly all of its damage down low.

UPIKE (5-0) scored the first 13 points of the game and went on to lead by as many as 37 points in the first half on Desmond Medder's layup with 30 seconds remaining. The Bears took a 57-20 lead into halftime.

Ohio-Lancaster (0-2) outscored UPIKE 10-6 over the first four minutes of the second half, but a 10-2 Bear run followed to go back up by 39 on a layup from Parsley.

Once up by 40 at 80-40, UPIKE slammed things shut with a 20-4 run to take its largest lead yet of 60 with 4:01 to play.
