Carden, Hot Hitters Push Baseball Past Glenville State 10-1

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Bryce Carden put together an impressive start on the mound and Erik Manning and Anthony Roberts combined for six hits and four RBIs to lead the University of Pikeville baseball team past Glenville State 10-1 on Sunday at Johnnie LeMaster Field.

UPIKE won the weekend series with the Pioneers, claiming victories in two out of three games.

The Bears opened up the scoring with four runs in the third inning on an RBI single by Roberts, a bases-loaded walk drawn by Manning and an RBI single from Jay Vincent.

UPIKE (8-3) outhit Glenville State 13-4, including Roberts going a perfect 3-3 and Manning finishing 3-4 with a pair of doubles.

Carden shut out the Pioneers (1-10) during his 6 1/3 innings, striking out two batters while allowing three walks and four hits to improve to 2-0 on the season..

Brady Wilkinson was charged with the loss, lasting just 4 1/3 innings while walking six, striking out two and allowing five runs.

UPIKE added on to its 4-0 lead with a single run in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings, along with three more in the bottom of the seventh. That frame got off to a hot start when Travis Haen singled, plating Jacob DiThomas.

Glenville State made a late push in the eighth inning, scoring its lone run of the game after an error in the infield with two outs. Leading 9-1, UPIKE got that run back in the bottom of the eighth on a groundout by Ryne Smith.
