Baseball Falls to No. 7 Lindsey Wilson 2-1, 11-3

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The hits came for the University of Pikeville baseball team on Thursday, but seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson had timely hitting and strong defense to pull off a pair of 2-1 and 11-3 wins at Johnnie LeMaster Field.

UPIKE dropped to 10-9 overall and 0-2 in Mid-South Conference play, while the nationally-ranked Blue Raiders pushed ahead to 19-6 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The Bears outhit Lindsey Wilson 7-6 in the opener, followed by LWC edging them in hits 13-10 in the nightcap.

No. 7 Lindsey Wison 2, UPIKE 1

UPIKE's Dalton Dahley pitched a solid 6 2/3 innings, but he was provided little run support as Lindsey Wilson held on for the 2-1 win.

Scott Sebald got the win for the Blue Raiders after allowing just the one run over eight innings. He struck out eight, walked one and surrendered seven hits.

Lindsey Wilson struck first with a run in the third inning before adding another in the sixth. The sixth frame also saw the Bears score their only run of the day on an error by the catcher. Centerfielder Josh Bailey had stolen third base, then hustled home after a wild throw behind the plate.

No. 7 Lindsey Wilson 11, UPIKE 3

UPIKE racked up 10 hits in game two, but it wasn't enough in an 11-3 loss in which the Blue Raiders got hot in the fourth inning for four runs.

Bailey racked up three RBIs when he homered in the fifth inning, sending a rocket just over the right-field fence. But it ended up being too little, too late as Lindsey Wilson added four more runs in the final two frames.

Tyler Russell recorded the win for Lindsey Wilson, allowing just three runs over five innings. He struck out three, didn't issue a walk and surrendered nine hits.

Lindsey Wilson faced six UPIKE pitchers, collecting 11 hits and 11 RBIs off of them. James Brooks took the loss for the Bears after allowing six runs in four innings with seven walks and one strikeout.

The Blue Raiders got the scoring started with four runs in the second inning on an RBI single by Aaron Ashton and a three-run triple from Edgar Lebron.

Lindsey Wilson added four more runs in the top of the seventh as Aaron Ashton kicked things off with a single, plating Alex Salcedo, then Austin Atwell connected on a two-run home run.
