Softball Comes Up Short at Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville softball team lost 10-1 in five innings and 8-4 after being outhit a combined 28-13 at Georgetown in its Mid-South Conference openers on Friday.

UPIKE drops to 6-11 overall and 0-2 in the MSC, while Georgetown moves to 11-9 overall and 2-0 in league play. The Tigers are the only MSC team left without a loss and are scheduled for two more games with the Bears at Noon ET on Saturday.

 

Georgetown 10, UPIKE 1 (5 inn.)

UPIKE scattered five hits in the opener, but wasn't able to string enough together for some runs in a 10-1 loss in five innings at Georgetown.

Jessica Claxton got the win for the Tigers after 2 2/3 shutout innings. She struck out two, walked none and gave up just two hits.

Georgetown had six hitters combine for 12 hits, nine RBIs and nine runs as Lindsay Floyd was charged with the loss after allowing 11 runs in four innings.

The Bears' lone run came in the first inning on an RBI single by Jillian Bohnert.

Georgetown was in control throughout the game after scoring seven runs in the first inning on two doubles, an RBI single by Chelsea Osborn and two triples.

 

Georgetown 8, UPIKE 4

UPIKE jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the third inning, but was unable to hold on, losing 8-4 to Georgetown in the nightcap.

While the Bears led until the fourth inning, Georgetown worked its way back and took over the lead on a groundout by Cassidy Janes.

Hannah Morton got the win, allowing four runs on seven hits in seven innings of work in the circle. She struck out one batter and walked one as well.

Alexandra Quill took the loss after scattering 13 hits for eight runs in six innings. Quill walked two while failing to record a strikeout.

Georgetown struck for one run early in the first inning, as Chaselyn Allgeier kicked things off with a double before moving to third on a passed ball.

The Tigers took the lead for good in the fourth inning, scoring four runs on two solo home runs, a groundout by Janes and an RBI single from Allgeier.
