Softball Sweeps Asbury on the Road

WILMORE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville softball team outhit Asbury 21-10 on the day as it swept the Eagles 4-3 and 10-0 in a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader.

UPIKE pushed its overall record past .500 at 5-4 overall, while the Eagles dropped to 4-8.

Up next for the Bears is a trip to Bluefield on Wednesday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. ET.

 

UPIKE 4, Asbury 3

UPIKE pushed ahead 4-0 with two runs in the third and fifth innings, then held on through Asbury's comeback effort as Lindsay Floyd gave up all three of her runs in the final inning.

Breana Pineda was hot from the plate, collecting three hits and scoring two runs. She singled in the first and third innings before adding a double in the fifth.

Floyd picked up the win in the circle after scattering six hits for the three runs in a complete seven innings. She struck out one and walked none in the complete-game effort.

UPIKE's winning runs in the fifth inning came home on an error and an RBI single by Jillian Bohnert.

 

UPIKE 10, Asbury 0 (5 inn.)

UPIKE jumped out to a 7-0 lead through four innings, then added three more in the fifth to reach a 10-run lead and bring the game to an early close behind a dominant performance from Alexandra Quill in the circle.

Quill kept Asbury quiet on the scoreboard for all five frames, allowing four hits while striking out two.

The Bears got on the scoreboard first with a two-run single by Bohnert in the first inning, then added an RBI single from Mackenzie Summers and sacrifice fly by Destiny Molden in the second to put together the hot start.

Logan Cline led the Bears at the plate with three RBIs on two hits, singling in the second and smashing a home run in the fifth.
