Softball Falls to No. 5 Campbellsville 15-0, 9-0

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Fifth-ranked Campbellsville outhit the University of Pikeville softball team 26-8 on their way to a doubleheader sweep on Sunday, shutting out the Bears 15-0 in five innings and 9-0 in six innings at Paul Butcher Field.

UPIKE came up with just three hits in the opener, before only being outhit 10-5 in game two, but a combined five errors didn't help its cause. Campbellsville, on the other hand, played error free and hit a home run, six doubles and a pair of triples.

Jill Bohnert and Courtney Morgan fared the best at the plate for the Bears, hitting a combined two hits each, while Hollie Hinkle had a strong showing in game two, going 2 for 2.

Markie Smith drove in four runs on two hits for the Tigers and Jacqueline Roof added three hits and three RBIs with a home run.

Lindsay Floyd took the loss in the circle in the opener after allowing 15 runs on 16 hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Only seven of the runs were earned. Alexandra Quill was stuck with the loss in game two, scattering 10 hits for nine runs with a strikeout and four walks.

Game one got away from the Bears in the first inning when Campbellsville struck for nine runs with the help of three UPIKE errors. The Bears trailed just 1-0 through three innings in game two before the Tigers got hot for five runs in the fourth to help seal the shutout sweep.

Quill opened the fourth inning issuing a walk and hitting a batter before a double by Madison Mudd started the scoring spree.
