WILMORE, Ky. -- Asbury outshot the University of Pikeville men's soccer team 25-3 en route to a 5-0 win over the Bears on Tuesday. Only two of the UPIKE attempts were on goal as the Eagles took advantage of their dominant defensive effort to tally the shutout.
UPIKE goalkeeper Anibal Navarro kept Asbury at bay for 34 minutes when it scored its first goal of the game in the 35th minute, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. The goals came quicker in the second half, striking three times in the first 30 minutes to put the Bears away.
Navarro finished with seven saves and the five goals allowed in 75 minutes before giving way to backup Jorge Mejia. Brandon Patterson played a full 90 in goal for the Eagles, putting together a clean sheet with just two saves.
Asbury simply had more opportunities to score, holding a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks while UPIKE was whistled for more fouls at 9-6.
