PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Georgetown hit .440 as a team and out blocked the University of Pikeville volleyball team 11-1 on its way to a 3-0 win on Wednesday night in UPIKE Gym.
The Tigers (13-2, 3-0 MSC) got four of the blocks from Caroline Ricks, while Jenny Howell was the only player to reach double figures in kills for the match with 10.
UPIKE got a solid night from Kaitlyn Welsh with seven kills at a .150 clip and Sydney Hall tallied a .429 hitting mark, but only had seven total attempts with three going down as kills.
The Bears' offense struggled at times, evident by the .063 hitting mark and strong blocking from Georgetown, but Savanna Zakman was still able to dish out 16 assists and come up with a team-best six digs. Hall came up with UPIKE's lone block with a solo stop.
Georgetown pulled out to leads of 12 and 15 points in a hurry in the first two sets before UPIKE made things interesting in the third. An Amarie Eadie kill evened things up at 10-10, but that also spurred a 7-1 Tiger run that ended the back-and-forth section of the set.
UPIKE would score four more times, but never get closer that six points the rest of the way.
