Women’s Soccer Falls to No. 25 Cumberland 5-0

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Facing its first ranked opponent of the season, the University of Pikeville women's soccer team lost 5-0 against No. 25 Cumberland (Tenn.) on Monday afternoon at the Bob Amos Complex.

The Phoenix scored three goals in the first 17 minutes, starting with Savannah Moreland in the ninth minute off an assist from Rebecca Holloway. Holloway scored a goal herself in the 12th minute, then Mariah Aplin wrapped up the first half scoring with an unassisted strike in the 18th.

Moreland followed up scoring the game's first goal with two more in the second (49th, 54th) to get to the final 5-0 margin.

Cumberland (5-1-1, 1-0 MSC) outshot the Bears 14-3 overall, including a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal. Three different UPIKE (4-4, 0-2 MSC) players took a shot, but Reagan Bridge was the only one to put an attempt on target. Moreland paced the Phoenix with four shots, placing all of them on goal.

Corner kicks went in favor of the Phoenix 4-0, as well as offside calls, 8-0.

Moreka Buchanan finished with eight saves in goal for the Bears, while Ashley Kambeitz picked up the clean sheet with one save.
