Women’s Soccer Loses Defensive Battle at Midway 1-0

MIDWAY, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville and Midway women's soccer teams combined for 28 shots, but an Eagle goal in the 60th minute ended up being the only one to count on the scoreboard, giving them a 1-0 win and keeping them undefeated at 4-0.

Kindsay Miller-Riney fired a game-high 10 shots, placing six on goal, before finally finding the back of the net early in the second half. UPIKE's only attempt at an answer came five minutes later when Lyndsey Jones' shot off a Reagan Bridge corner kick was saved by Midway keeper Lauren Schuster.

Schuster split halves in goal with Emily Belt, collecting two and one saves, respectively. Chelsie Randolph played a full 90 minutes in goal for UPIKE, grabbing 10 saves and allowing the lone goal.

Midway outshot the Bears 22-6 overall, including an 11-3 advantage in shots put on target. Corner kicks were even between the two teams at 7-7, as were fouls at 9-9. But offensive opportunities made the difference, especially in the second half where Midway took 14 shots to the Bears' one.

Macarena Acuna was active in the first half for UPIKE, taking three shots with two on goal, but the team-leading effort failed to produce any points.
