Men’s Soccer Topped at Midway 8-0

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Midway scored two early goals to set the tone and consistently added to its lead in an 8-0 shutout of the University of Pikeville men's soccer team on Thursday.

In the first 10 minutes, the Eagles (2-2) found the back of the net twice, scoring in the 6th minute on a UPIKE own goal and again in the 10th off the foot of Brad Wilson. Wilson finished with three goals and assisted on two others to lead the Eagles.

Midway closed the first half with a 4-0 lead as Wilson netted his second goal in the 42nd minute before adding four more strikes in the second half. Carlos Pinto, who also scored a goal in the first half, added the first two in the second to finish with a hat trick as well.

UPIKE (3-5) was outshot 21-7 for the game, including a 14-3 lead in shots put on goal. Corner kicks went in favor of Midway 3-1, as did fouls 7-5.

Hayden McLeod paced the Bears with three shots, two of which were saved by Christian Neira. Neira finished the game with three total saves, while UPIKE's Jorge Meija made four saves and allowed four of the goals. Brandon Lopez played the final 37 minutes in goal for the Bears, making three saves and allowing four goals as well.

It was Lopez's -- typically a starting defender -- first minutes logged in goal of his collegiate career.
