PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Second-ranked Lindsey Wilson started slow out of the gate, but picked up the pace in the second and third sets on its way to a 3-0 win over the University of Pikeville volleyball team on Thursday in UPIKE Gym.
After the Blue Raiders (15-1, 6-1 MSC) shot out to a 6-1 lead in the first set, the Bears outscored them 12-7 to tie things up at 13 midway through the frame. An 11-4 Lindsey Wilson run followed though, giving it a lead as large as seven points on the way to a 25-19 win.
The second set wasn't as friendly to UPIKE (12-8, 1-4 MSC) as it tallied just five points and trailed by as many as 20, then the final frame was lopsided as well as Lindsey Wilson turned a 16-10 lead into a 14-point deficit with an 8-0 run late in the set.
For the match, the Blue Raiders outhit the Bears .341 to .025, including a .545 hitting percentage in the second set. Eileen Acuna tallied a match-high nine kills for LWC, while Sydney Hall paced UPIKE with six kills and Connor Cook and Cassidy Tackett chipped in with five kills each.
UPIKE's Rachel Murphy collected a match-best 11 digs and Hall and Amari Eadie both sent back a block in the loss.
