COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson shot out to a 12-2 lead in the first five minutes and never looked back, extending its lead to as many as 34 points on the way to an 89-62 win over the 23rd-ranked University of Pikeville women's basketball team on Thursday.
Devin Conley and Kelah Eldridge paced the Bears (12-6, 2-3 MSC) with 12 and 11 points, respectively, as they were outrebounded 49-34, including 25-15 on the offensive glass. UPIKE also shot just 35.8 percent from the field and went 4 of 23 from behind the arc on a tough night offensively.
Lindsey Wilson shot 41 percent from the field and made nine 3-pointers while also connecting on 16-of-20 shots from the stripe to stay on top big. Kayla Richardson paced the Blue Raiders (16-0, 4-0 MSC) with 18 points and Kayla Styles and J'Nayah Hall both added double-doubles.
Styles tallied 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Hall finished with 17 points and 10 boards. Six of Styles boards were on the offensive glass.
Open looks were scarce for UPIKE as it faced intense man-to-man pressure all night long, resulting in an 18-10 lead in turnovers which turned into 22 points for LWC.
UPIKE looked like it was headed for a 30-point deficit at halftime before going on an 8-0 run to make it 45-25 at the break. The other bright spot came late in the third quarter when a 9-0 Bear run took it from a 30-point Blue Raider lead down to 21.
But Lindsey Wilson continued to attack the glass and knock down shots in the final ten minutes, pushing back out in front by 34 points with 4:05 to play.
