Georgetown Tops Women’s Soccer 2-0

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Georgetown scored a goal in each half on its way to a 2-0 win over the University of Pikeville women's soccer team in Mid-South Conference play on Tuesday at the Bob Amos Complex.

Despite being outshot 15-1 in the first half, goalkeeper Bryanna Schroers kept UPIKE (0-13-1, 0-5 MSC) in striking distance by allowing just one goal while making eight saves in the first 45 minutes.

Georgetown (7-5-2, 2-2-1 MSC) controlled possession for the majority of the half, but only capitalized on one of their nine shots put on target.

It started with a goal kick by Schroers in the 16th minute that was headed by Georgetown's Emily Conner over to Lindsey Dunn on the right side. Dunn kept the ball for about 25 feet before beating one defender, then netting the goal past the outstretched hand of the keeper.

Georgetown wouldn't score again until the 79th minute when Skye Zimmer played a short cross to Bethany Massey in the middle of the penalty box for the one-touch finish.

The Tigers ended with a 30-2 edge in shots and 15-2 lead in shots on goal. They also led in corner kicks 5-0 and the teams each fouled seven times.

Schroers scooped up 13 total saves and Georgetown's Megan Martin had one as both keepers went the full 90.

Tori Dillon and Skylar Chapman took UPIKE's two shots and Massey paced the Tigers with seven.
