LEBANON, Tenn -- No. 16 Cumberland scored its first goal in the third minute before adding five more in the first half alone on the way to a 11-0 win over the University of Pikeville women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears (0-14-1, 0-6 MSC) were outshot 26-1 overall, including a 15-0 gap in shots put on goal. Emily Shires led the way with three goals as the Phoenix controlled possession for the majority of the game.
Cumberland (10-3-1, 6-0 MSC) got a complete-game clean sheet from Ashley Kambeitz in goal, but she did so without having to make a save. UPIKE's lone shot was attempted by Macarena Acuna which sailed wide.
Bryanna Schroers played a complete-game in goal for the Bears as well, finishing with three saves.
Corner kicks were controlled by the Phoenix 7-0, as were fouls at a narrower 3-2 margin.
Shires got on the board in the third minute when Mariah Aplin's shot hit the crossbar and she rebounded it for the easy finish. A minute later, Rebecca Halloway collected a through ball played through the middle of the box by Shires to make it 2-0.
The Phoenix added first-half goals in the 16th, 17th, 18th and 22nd minutes to quickly tally a 6-0 halftime lead. The first Cumberland goal of the second half took seven minutes to find the back of the net when Shires dribbled around a defender for her hat trick.
Cumberland finished off the scoring with four more goals, including the finale by Keera Sidney in the 89th minute, to get to the final 11-0 margin.
