WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville volleyball team was aced 11 times and outhit .241 to .049 in a 3-0 loss at Cumberlands on Saturday afternoon.
Noelani Simpson kept up her hot hitting hand with a team-high 10 kills and Cassidy Tackett chipped in with seven, but the Bears' 23 attack errors compared to just seven for the Patriots was too much to overcome.
Jessica Severs led Cumberlands with 11 kills and Megan Willoughby kept the defense off balance with six aces.
Savanna Zaman finished with 27 assists and Natalia Gascot led four Bears with double-digits in digs with 14, but UPIKE struggled to slow the Patriots' attack with just three blocks.
Cumberlands completed the win with set scores of 25-19, 25-10 and 25-18 as the Bears fall to 5-15 overall and 0-6 in Mid-South Conference play. The Patriots improve to 10-8 overall and 2-5 in league play. Â
