BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The seventh-seeded University of Pikeville men's soccer team gave everything it had on defense before No. 2-seed Campbellsville pulled away in the second half for a 3-0 win in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Thursday.
It was knotted up at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes and stayed that way for a chunk of the second half before the Tigers struck first on a free kick by Ignacio Mangada over the middle of the penalty box in the 66th minute.
With the lid off the goal, Campbellsville went on to add scores in the 75th minute by Lucas Batistela off a cross from Mark Callaghan and in the 88th, again by Batistela, when Thom Edge booted a pass over the top of the defense.
Andreas Nota picked up with clean-sheet win in goal, but he didn't see any real action as the Bears failed to attempt a shot. On UPIKE's side, Anibal Navarro made three saves in a full 90 minutes.
Including a team-best four shots by Edge, the Tigers finished with 18 on the night, but put just six of them on target.
Corner kicks went Campbellsville's way 8-2, as did fouls at 8-6.
UPIKE wraps up the 2017 season with a 3-12-1 record, while Campbellsville improves to 13-2-1 heading into next week's semifinals.
