Women’s Basketball Tops IU Northwest 90-58

ADRIAN, Mich. – Rachel Lee poured in a career-high 24 points to help the University of Pikeville women's basketball team to a 90-58 win over Indiana Northwest in the opening game of the Siena Heights Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday.

UPIKE advances to Saturday's finals where it will play the host Saints for the tournament title at 4 p.m. ET.

The Bears (5-4) never trailed on Friday, but it was only a four-point game with 3:31 left in the third quarter. Starting with a 3 by Adison Corder, UPIKE ended that frame on a 7-2 run before going on to outscore IU Northwest 26-3 in the final 10 minutes.

That dominant fourth-quarter included Lee going a perfect 3 for 3 from the field and Corder adding another triple.

The RedHawks (4-5) made their only field goal of the quarter at the 6:40 mark to make it a 72-57 Pikeville lead. Over the final six-plus minutes, the Bears used an 18-1 run to end up winning by 32 points after not leading by more than 13 in the previous three frames.

Corder ended up with 17 points and hit five 3-pointers, Jamie Castle added 14 points and five assists and Kayla Mullins scored 10 points off the bench. UPIKE made 16 of 19 free throws and outshot IU-Northwest 45 to 40 percent from the field.

While the Bears barely edged IUN on the glass at 31-28, they did make seven more 3s at 12-5 and forced 22 turnovers while committing just eight of their own.

Weslee Wilson led the RedHawks with 19 points and Jayla Crump added 14. Alexis Blake collected a game-high 11 rebounds.
