BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Top-seeded and undefeated Lindsey Wilson won 3-0 against eighth-seeded University of Pikeville in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Volleyball Tournament on Thursday morning at South Warren High School.
The Blue Raiders tallied the shutout win with set scores of 25-11, 25-9 and 25-14 while posting a .422 hitting percentage as they connected on 45 of 83 attacks with just 10 errors. LWC entered the match as the NAIA's second best hitting team at .352 on the season.
UPIKE, which hit .068 (17-74, 12 errors), was led by Noelani Simpson with eight kills while no one else had more than two. Simpson also added two digs, a block and an assist. Cecelia Ray, Cassidy Tackett, Brittany Reels and Cassie Jones all added two kills each.
With offensive opportunities lacking, Savanna Zakman finished with just 14 assists and libero Natalia Gascot paced the Bears with seven digs.
Klara Mikelova and Paulina Sobolewska sent down nine kills each for Lindsey Wilson with Mikelova leading the way with a .500 hitting percentage (9-16, 1 error). MSC Player of the Year Makenzie Montano dished out 37 assists and libero of the year Caitlyn Tino found 13 digs.
The first set saw Lindsey Wilson use an 11-1 run to build a 14-3 lead on its way to a 25-11 win. UPIKE briefly had a 2-0 lead to start the second set, but a 9-0 Blue Raider run followed to set the path for a 25-9 win. LWC didn't go up by double digits for good until the 20-10 mark of the third set before going on to with the frame by 11. Â Â Â Â
UPIKE ends its season with a 10-21 record, including a 2-12 mark in MSC play, while Lindsey Wilson advances to Friday's semifinals with a 26-0 record. The Blue Raiders will meet the winner between No. 4 Cumberlands and No. 5 Life (Ga.).
