Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 8 Campbellsville Controls Glass in 70-58 Win Over No. 23 Women’s Basketball

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Devin Conley and Kandice Porter scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, but it wasn't enough to get the 23rd-ranked University of Pikeville women's basketball team past No. 8 Campbellsville in a 70-58 loss on Saturday.

Madison Stewart paced the Tigers (23-4, 8-3 MSC) with 17 points and Emily Fox and Madison Clements added 13 each as 19 turnovers and being outrebounded 41-27 was too much to overcome for the Bears.

The game came down to second chances and Campbellsville got plenty, leading the offensive glass 17-2. That margin led to the Tigers putting up 70 shots in the game, compared to just 45 for the Bears. While UPIKE (18-8, 6-5 MSC) shot better at 48.9 to 41.4 percent and both teams made six 3s, the rebounding differential gave Campbellsville an edge all game long.

Abby Miller did the bulk of the damage with nine boards, including four on the offensive glass, while Jamie Castle led the Bears with five total boards.

HOW IT WENT DOWN

Porter wasn't messing around to start the game, scoring six quick points to pass her season average in the first four minutes and help the Bears tie the Tigers at 6-6. Soon after that Emily Baker added a free throw and the Bears led 7-6 with 6:04 on the clock, but that would end up being their last lead of the game.

There was a tie later in the quarter at 13-13 on a Kelah Eldridge steal and layup, but after trailing by just one at the end of the quarter, Campbellsville burst out 25-17 lead in the first three minutes of the second. UPIKE got as close as four in the frame, but 10-0 run made it 35-21 Campbellsville with a minute to go.

Conley buried a 3 at the buzzer, allowing the Bears to trail by 11 at the break.

Campbellsville's lead never went into single digits the rest of the way, instead taking an 18-point lead at 42-24 after a Fox 3 before the Bears got it back down to 13 at the end of the third quarter. The Tigers ended up gaining leads as high as 20 points in the fourth as late as with 3:28 on the clock at 69-49.

UPIKE closed the game on a 4-0 run with a free throw and 3 by Rachel Lee off the bench to get to the final 12-point deficit.
