FRANKFORT, Ky. – Snapping a five-game losing streak in the series couldn't have come at a better time as the third-seeded University of Pikeville men's basketball team held on for a 74-67 win over No. 2-seed Georgetown to advance to the Mid-South Conference Tournament finals.
UPIKE (26-6) will be making its sixth appearance in the championship game where it will face top-seeded Life (Ga.) at 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday in the Frankfort Convention Center. The Bears are 3-2 in the championship round all time, last winning it in 2014 with a win over Georgetown in Lebanon, Tenn.

Trent Gilbert came off the bench for his first action of the game with a chance to tie, but his 3-point attempt was off the mark.

The teams tied on the glass with 35 rebounds each and UPIKE outshot Georgetown 44 to 40 percent from the field. While the Tigers made one extra 3-pointer with four, the Bears helped make up the difference with four more makes from the free-throw line.
Pointdexter led all scorers with 23 points and Chris Coffer added 15 for the Tigers.
Apart from the late comeback, the majority of the game belonged to UPIKE. It led by as many as 13 points in the first half with the help of an early 9-0 run. Down 36-27 late in the opening half, Georgetown did use a 9-0 run spanning each half to tie the game at 36 all, but about four minutes later the lead was back to 13.
UPIKE 13-0 run early in the second half ended up being enough to hold off Georgetown, even as it surged back into the game in the final two minutes.
