The Rams outhit UPIKE 14-7 in their game-one win as the Bears scored three runs in the first inning and never scored again.

Hannah Skaggs took the loss for UPIKE after allowing four runs on six hits in 2 1/3 frames.

Jordan Gentry was the only Bear with multiple hits, going 2 for 4, while Lindsay Floyd drove in two of the three runs with a double in the first inning.

Pikeville trailed 5-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh before Thacker hit a two-out single to centerfield with two outs that drove home Hannah Absher from second. Kitty Raymond held up at third on the hit, but ultimately was able to hustle home and win the game after the throw from the outfield scooted past catcher Kristen Murphy.

Gentry, Jill Bohnert and Kelsey Prater had two hits each in the win, including a 3-run home run from Bohnert in the third inning that made it just a 4-3 Bluefield lead.

The Rams had scored two runs each in the first and second innings as they outhit UPIKE 7-1 over the two frames.

Meredith Throckmorton hit an RBI single in the fourth to put Bluefield back up by two, but the Bears were able to get the run back in the fifth on Bohnert's hard-hit single, setting up Thacker to play the hero in the seventh.

She also tallied the win in the circle after allowing five runs on 11 hits with a strikeout in a complete-game showing. Brienna Sparks took over for Bluefield in relief in the fourth and went on to take the loss after giving up three runs on six hits over the next 3 2/3 innings.
