BECKLEY, W. Va. -- A 2-0 halftime lead slipped away from the University of Pikeville women's soccer team on Sunday as West Virginia Tech scored two equalizing goals in the second half before a 96th-minute golden goal by Patricia Fisher ended the game for a 3-2 Golder Bear win.
Macarena Acuna and Marissa Kelley netted goals in the 35th and 38th minutes to take an early lead and had UPIKE (0-1) looking like it was on its way to a season-opening win on the road. But three straight goals by Tech flipped the script and allowed the home team to leave as the victors.
West Virginia Tech (1-0) tallied a whopping 30-7 advantage in shots including a 21-4 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks went 6-3 in favor of the Golden Bears and fouls did as well at 14-8.
Bryanna Schroers collected 17 saves for the Bears while playing all 96 minutes in goal, compared to the Golden Bears' Martha Reyna with two saves and the two goals allowed.
Raegan Bridge paced UPIKE with two shots, while Kelley and Acuna scored their goals on their only shots of the contest. Three different Golden Bears scored in the second half and overtime, including Ruby Bingham with the first goal in the 64th minute and Johanna Ribacke with the tying goal in the 68th.
