OWENSBORO, Ky. -- After trailing 1-0 at the break, the University of Pikeville women's soccer team went on to take a 2-1 lead over Brescia early in the second half. But the Bearcats outscored the Bears 4-1 after that to log the 5-3 win on Wednesday night.
There were a whopping seven goals scored in the second half as both teams found their groove on offense.
Kassi Gilbert had put Brescia up 1-0 in the 15th minute, but neither team would score again in the first 45 minutes. The equalizer by Regan Bridge and go-ahead score by Skylar Chapman came quick in the 48th and 50th minutes after the break, but Brescia responded just as quick.
Sierra Tomblin tied the game at 2-2 in the 51st minute before Gilbert scored again four minutes later to have the Bearcats retake the lead.
The back-and-forth affair continued as UPIKE's Chapman tied things back up in the 65th, but two Brescia goals in the 77th and 90th minutes helped it seal the deal on the win.
UPIKE lost despite a 16-5 lead in shots and 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. While shots on goal went in the Bears' favor 14-5, Brescia did more with less, scoring on all five attempts that were put on target.
Bryanna Schroers finished the game without a save for UPIKE, while Brescia's Jerrica Kidd made 11 saves with the three goals allowed.
