Campbellsville Protects Home Court in 3-0 Win against Volleyball

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville volleyball team failed to have a player reach double figures in kills as it hit .143 as a team in a 3-0 loss on Tuesday at the Powell Athletic Center.

The Bears (5-12, 0-4 MSC) were only successful on 29 of their 105 attacks on the night and had 14 errors. Campbellsville wasn't miles ahead at a .215 clip (50-130, 22 errors), but it was good enough to get the win.

UPIKE led 7-6 in the first set but a 5-0 run tilted it in favor of the Tigers as they went on to lead by as many as eight points and win the frame 25-18. Campbellsville (11-2, 4-2 MSC) went on to win the next two frames 25-22.

Again, the Bears had an early lead in the second set at 10-9, but a 7-2 Tiger run followed and they never trailed again. The set was briefly tied 18-18 on a Campbellsville error but four straight Tiger points made the difference down the stretch.

UPIKE's loss in the third set was the hardest to stomach as it shot out to a 7-2 advantage and continued to lead at 20-17 on an ace by Cecilia Ray. The lead was still three at 21-18 when the frame fell apart for the Bears. The home team went on a 4-0 run to lead 22-21 before scoring three of the next four points to end the match.

Amari Eadie and Cassidy Tackett paced the UPIKE offense with eight and seven kills, respectively, while Savanna Zakman chipped in with 22 assists and 13 digs. Cassie Jones and Noelani Simpson helped on defense as well with five and four blocks.

Julia Fonseca had the match high for kills with 19 and Maliyah Tela had a match-best 43 assists to lead the Tigers.
