MARIETTA, Ga. -- Life limited the University of Pikeville men's soccer team to just three shots on its way to a 5-1 win over the Bears in both team's Mid-South Conference opener on Friday night.
Even with limited chances, UPIKE (2-6-1, 0-1 MSC) got one of the shots into the back of the net when Eric Bernabeu finished an assist from Shawn Ramos in the 26th minute to make it a 2-1 game. But that manageable deficit grew by a goal 10 minutes later before Life eventually closed the door shut with two unanswered scores in the second half.
Bernabeu took a team-high two shots and Ramos fired the other, Sergio Sereeira paced Life with six shots, including one finished for a goal. Four Running Eagles scored on the night with Bastian Buechler doing the most damage with two goals.
It was Buechler in the 36th to push Life's lead to 3-1, followed by another Buechler goal in the 79th to make it a three-goal lead. Thierry Jules closed out the scoring in the 86th minute.
Corner kicks were close with Life (6-4, 1-0 MSC) leading 2-1 and fouls went its way too at 13-10.
Anibal Navarro spent nearly 77 minutes in goal for UPIKE with three saves and three goals allowed before giving the spot to Keelan Monger, who allowed the final two goals. Joe Davis and Daryoush Hosseini split halves in goal for Life with Hosseini giving up the lone goal and making the team's only save.
