Women’s Soccer Loses MSC Opener at Life 6-1

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Macarena Acuna scored a late goal in the 82nd minute, but it wasn't enough to stop a potent Life offense that scored five goals in the second half on the way to a 6-1 win over the University of Pikeville women's soccer team on Friday night. It was the Mid-South Conference opener for both teams.

Acuna tied for the game high with six shots, matching Life's Josie Davis, but the Running Eagles outshot the Bears (0-9, 0-1 MSC) 28-9 overall, including an 18-5 gap in shots on goal.

Davis did the bulk of the damage for Life (4-5, 1-0 MSC), finishing with four goals and an assist. She scored the game's first goal in the 26th minute, which would end up being the lone score of the first half. Davis then assisted on the first goal in the second when Isabel Solorzano-Sierra netted one in the 50th to go up 2-0.

The goals came quick after that as Davis scored in the 51st and 54th minutes to break the game open. Nearly 20 minutes later Acuna got the Bears on the board unassisted, but there wasn't enough time left to close the gap.

Corner kicks went Life's way 6-3, as did fouls 7-3, but Pikeville posted a 12-4 lead in saves. Bryanna Schroers collected nine saves in the first 69 minutes, followed by Caitlyn Hunt scooping up three saves in the final 21 minutes plus.
