PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- It's been said you shouldn't wear white after Labor Day, but we are throwing that out the window Saturday as the University of Pikeville's basketball games against Georgetown have been dubbed a "White Out", at the East Ky. Expo Center.
Tip-off is set at 2 p.m. ET for the women's game with the men to follow at 4 p.m. Wear white to support the Bears as they host the other orange & black school in the Mid-South Conference.
A live stream of the game is being provided by Pike TV, while the men's game can be heard on Z1075 FM with Rick Bentley on play-by-play and Joe Kinzer as analyst.
UPIKE's men are coming off a win at Campbellsville on Saturday than snapped a two-game skid and sent them to 17-2 overall on the season. The Bear women lost at Campbellsville, despite a late surge, and will be looking to snap a six-game losing streak of their own.
Georgetown is ranked fifth nationally on the men's side with an 18-1 record and its women are struggling at 7-12 under a first-year head coach.
UPIKE is facing the Tiger women for the 79th time, renewing its oldest rivalry. The Tigers lead the series 47-31, but the Bears are 7-1 in the last eight meetings. Last season, UPIKE won both regular-season matchups before also winning in the first round of the MSC Tournament. This is the first season as head coach for Georgetown's James Jackson, a former assistant with the Tigers' men's staff.
Georgetown is UPIKE's oldest rival on the men's side as well with this being the 142nd game between them. Georgetown holds a 99-42 lead in the series and is 7-3 against the Bears in the last 10 meetings. During last year's regular season, the Tigers won 69-59 in Pikeville before protecting their home court 64-45.
