Bears volleyball capture senior night victory against Alice Lloyd

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- UPIKE made quick work of Alice Lloyd on Monday with a 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-17, 25-16) in what was the final home match in the careers of Brooke Pickler and Mikayla Frye.

Both had nights to remember in different ways. Pickler had 17 assists, but also had a career-high tying four aces. She also got to finally go on the attack as a hitter for part of the final set, a break from her usual setter position.

Meanwhile Frye had an extremely efficient night with six kills on 10 attacks with two aces. She also got the rare opportunity to serve and made the most of it with two aces of her own.

UPIKE hit .320 as a team, led by Noelani Simpson's 11 kills and Amanda Gooding's nine, but building the early lead allowed coach Obed Quiles to use his entire bench on the season's final home match.

All 16 girls on the varsity roster made an appearance in the game, and some rarely used players got some significant time. Kyra Harmon made an appearance as the libero in the third set, earning four digs and five receptions; Alyssa Collins tallied three digs; and UPIKE softball player Emme Barker made her varsity volleyball debut, earning her first career reception which led to an immediate UPIKE kill.
