UPIKE women’s basketball blazes past Kentucky Christian

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- UPIKE women's basketball will head into its first road trip of the season undefeated after beating Kentucky Christian 78-45 on Tuesday night.

It wasn't as much of UPIKE overwhelming KCU in any section of the game, as much as just being better in each segment of the game and building its lead throughout all four quarters.

KCU started the game with a 6-2 lead, but UPIKE then went on a 14-0 run, capped by back to back buckets from Alexis Reed to take a commanding lead heading into the first quarter break.

Reed led the Bears with 14 points on 6-9 shooting, including hitting both three-point shots she took.

The Knights were able to cut the lead down to four points early in the second quarter before a 9-2 UPIKE run to close the half gave the Bears a 15-point halftime lead.

The third quarter was the most dominant for the Bears, complete with a 13-3 run to close out the period and put the game out of reach. Pikeville shot 71 percent (10-14) in the third quarter while holding the Knights to 33 percent (5-15).

Things just got worse offensively for the Knights who shot 18 percent in the fourth quarter. Overall, UPIKE shot 54 percent on the night. Two other Bears -- Mia Greatrex and Sierra Feltner -- both had 10 points each while Theodora Odia was just behind with seven.
