PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Rivalry week is here for the University of Pikeville basketball teams as they hit the road to Georgetown on Thursday night. The women's game tips at 6 p.m. ET with the men to follow at 8 p.m.
Earlier this season the UPIKE men and women won both games against the Tigers in the East Ky. Expo Center.
More recently, the UPIKE men are on an eight game winning streak, including a comeback win at Cumberland after trailing by as many as 19 points on Saturday. UPIKE's women have lost two straight against No. 9 Lindsey Wilson and Cumberland.
Georgetown is UPIKE's oldest rival on the men's side as this is the 143rd game between them. Georgetown holds a 99-43 lead in the series and is 6-4 against the Bears in the last 10 meetings. Earlier this season the Bears beat Georgetown 95-83 in the Expo Center behind 25 points from Jayvian Delacruz.
UPIKE has lost 16 straight regular-season games playing the Tigers on the road, last winning there in the 2003 MSC Tournament Championship game when it was at campus sites.
For the women, UPIKE and Georgetown are meeting for the 80th time, renewing the Bears' oldest rivalry on that side as well. The Tigers lead the series 47-32, but the Bears are 8-1 in the last nine meetings. Earlier this season, UPIKE won 75-69 at home behind 19 points from Jamie Castle.
This is the first season as head coach for Georgetown's James Jackson, a former assistant with the Tigers' men's staff.
